ITM joins CIRAS, the Confidential Incident Reporting Analysis System for transport

Posted 9 years ago

We take calls from staff, their supervisors and managers in the strictest of confidence. We are independent of all subscribing member organisations.

As a part of ITM's continuing commitment to the transport sector we have recently joined Ciras. CIRAS, which is funded by individual railway and other transport related businesses, has been operating since 1996. In that time we have taken thousands of reports that have protected the identity of those reporting and we have facilitated resolution to concerns raised and shared learning across the member community.

We operate across the entire United Kingdom and serve multiple transport modes. We regard ourselves as an independent component of a member organisations safety management systems, a further line of defence, a back-up to complement their safety and health arrangements, but we are not a whistle blowing service. We believe that member organisations join CIRAS because they value that all information is key and they recognise that people are different and some will be reluctant to report internally and that sometimes safety concerns aren’t always addressed to their staff’s satisfaction despite good intent. We are an alternative reporting route should anyone ever need one.
